Well, as of midnight my time at uni (college for US peeps) has oficially started! Hardly any sleep and too much alcohol have been things I took for granted for the past 10 days abd it was worth it. Only downside now is that my throat is sore, my head hurts, my stomach is tossing everything around, my ears have this annoying beep in them and on a whole I feel like a wreck. Tonight's end-of-intro party will last 'till at least 4 AM but in my condition I thought it was best to go home and get some sleep.
I actually did something useful today. I had another housing interview. It went pretty well if you ask me but I won't know if I'm the lucky guy 'till tuesday. (And classes start monday.) Tomorrow I'll visit another house for an interview and I really hope that with those two lined up I will find a room for myself.
Well, that's it. Now it's time for me to get some sleep. Ciao all!

Hey all!
Here's a quick update on my university introduction. Lots of weird activities, alcohol and sleepless nights are taking their toll but let me assure you, it's worth it! I am fine and I might do some reading e-mails etc during the next couple of days now I have my laptop hooked up to the campus' wireless LAN. (The fastest wireless connection in Europe!) I can't promise 'cause if a party goes on 'till 4 AM I might not feel up to it ;) Yup, I've got 'till the end of the week. From monday on things are for real and some studying has to be done. That won't affect my internet business much but it will be something to keep in mind at parties and around alcohol.
Ciao and 'till later! Thomas

Santa Esmeralda - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood |
] |
During the last two weeks I have learned the following:
- Canadian wolves are so cool (yes, I saw Canadian wolves in France... a lot of other wolves as well) - Wolf puppies are too cute - My dad goes o.O every time you try to take a picture of him - You get to see the coolest sights by walking - Other people can't take my picture very well - What, is that 17 kilometer river kayak trip over already? I want MORE!!! - My little brother actually knows how to read a book! o.O - My little brother is still a television addict though - Living without a computer for games and internet for a while is doable, living without any contact with your friends is a lot harder - A 512 MB card for my camera isn't enough to cover two weeks in the wild - An 11 hour car ride is not good for your knees - The peage (French tollway/cross-country bits of highway) has a speed limit? - The highest bridge in the world looks very small when your standing under it ;) - My dog is the best dog in the world when it comes to travelling - The fact my mom turned 50 during our time in France didn't stop her friends to decorate our entire house - Wine, cheese and saucages are prolly the best inventions ever - Give me my hiking shoes, a backpack with two bottles of water and I'm capable of hiking through nature all day long - There are a lot of forgotten ruins and ancient villages in the world that no one seems to know about anymore
And too much other stuff to type it all here... anyway, the main message is that I'm back and that I've had a great time. The fact I returned to the mess of my life with finding a place to live next year and my university enrollment papers being returned ('cause I forgot to enclose one single piece of paper, gah, can't the process the rest and ask me to send in the missing paper a.s.a.p.?) seems managable after two weeks of nature and relaxation. I can't do much about that 'till after the weekend anyway so... I'm gonna resize and upload photos soon. Right now I have to catch up with various forums and webcomics ;)

The Da Vinci Code OST |
] |
I really like new things... so this is already one hell of a week for me and it's going to get even better!
Last friday I threw a graduation party and while I wasn't expecting any, everybody brought gifts, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Lots of candy, bottles of wine, two cookbooks, money and a thermosflask were the things people gave me. Today I went to Amsterdam to spend the money which resulted in me buying the soundtrack of The Da Vinci Code and an album by Sonata Arctica. I also bought another Discworld novel (Terry Prattchet, Mort) and a little book called Bad Cat which shows pictures of cats much like the ones you can find on mycathatesyou.com and a really big sailors bag which will come in really handy for travelling and a lot of other things.
Tomorrow I'm going to my grandad's 85th birthday which means cake!
That's about it. Well, it's not about it but it's all I'm going to type for now. Ciao!

A lot of people are lonely, ill, worried, in doubt, feeling terrible... stuff like that. Is it contagious? >.> People, cheer the fuck up! (Pardon my English, hehe.) Life's as good as you make it so if it sucks, try harder to make it work. For those who need more convincing, watch 'What The Bleep Do We Know!?'. True, it's a terribly American film and not always correct but it carries the right message. (And no, this message is not only directed to the people on LJ. Some people actually come here to read whatever it is I write.)

Today my school's vice-principle rang:

Oh yeah! I've graduated! A shiny list of good grades and my ticket to life as a college/uni student! Later this summer I'll be off to Enschede to study Chemical Technology and now I graduated I can focus on the preparations for moving and stuff. Oooh, how long I've waited for this. First there's something else that needs to be taken care off though... beer, Chinese and music! PARTY!
More interesting stuff from me when I'm a little less jumpy and hyper. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I FEEL GOOD!

Gayar is the name of my dad's old Laser and today it hit the water again for the first time in a couple of years. The last few years I sailed a Laser Pico (still to be named >.<) but now I decided it was time to use the real thing. There was sun, there was wind, there was water... what more can somebody wish for? Three hours all alone on the water, racing back and forth. Heh, now I know why I like sailing again. Here's another name to add to your list of hatter-bot (the "have you seen my head" relay bot) names: talkinghats77
Now here's another something...
I received a message today which said someone was posting my friends only entries at a certain location. I already suspected it to be something nasty so I copied the link and opened it in a secure browsing environment. The page it points to is loaded with scripts etc. from what I read in the code your screen is supposed to start jumping around and it contains commands to open programs and stuff. For the rest it's a page that looks nasty. I don't know everything this thing does but be warned.
The name I got this message from is aznflood15. I suspect another bot but I can't be sure untill I did a proper check. The message was as follows: "someone has been posting your friends only entries here: http:// [insert your LJ username here].on.nimp.org/?u=bantown" Another name added and blocked.
This was another Public Service Announcement for you guys. (And yes, that link is broken for a reason...)

Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds |

It's out of my hands... the exams are over and now it's waiting for the results.
The last exam was physics and though I didn't think it would be too hard at first, it struck me as downright simple when I sat there. As you can prolly guess, I think I did really well. There were a lot of questions about power (you know, Watts or Joules per second) which aare always relatively easy. I don't think I've dragged my physics average down with this exam ;)
Now it's time for waiting... waiting for June 15th... on that day the school will call all exam students and tell them whether or not they have passed their exams and thus graduated. Whaaa! The doubts, the suspense! This also means it's... holiday! YAY! All the time in the world to myself! *is so happy with that fact*
THE song for the physics exam = Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds (Really catchy song... and punky lyrics, hehe.)

M-m-maths... yes... the... f-feared e-e-exam...
'cause let's be honest, I'm not good at maths. Finding answers to problems somebody else made up? Really, people say that maths is the toolbox for subjects like physics and chemistry but those subjects I can understand... those subjects I'm quite good at! Still, I had to take the exam. With some hard work I managed to enter the exam with a 5,3 (in our Dutch linear 0 to 10 system) as average. I think I have scored enough points to have made the exam good enough to graduate but since it's maths, I can't be certain.
THE song for the maths exam = Duran Duran - Reach Up For The Sunrise (This song makes me feel good most of the time, so I kinda need it...)

*is waaaaaaaaaay too late with posting this* *has a totally lame excuse for this* "Yeah, ehm... see, I didn't really have a journal editor installed and ehm... when I tried posting on the internet I got distracted all the time so, yeah... oooh, I know! I'll back-date the post!"
That being said, exam number four was English. It went really well, I think... I handed in the answers after about one and a half hour (which was about half of the time we had for the exam). The idea was that we got eleven different texts and had to answer questions about them. The questions were like "How does the article characterise ...?", "What does the author mean with line ...?", "Are the following statements correct or incorrect?", "Fill in the words missing in the text."... you get the idea.
When I got to the train station in Naarden-Bussum (where my old school is located) I noticed the official exam time still wasn't over so I decided to head over to my old school and ask some friends how they managed with the exam. It turned out a lot of people were having trouble with the exam. o.O'
Anyway, time for coffee. I'm off. Posts for exams 5 and 6 will appear later today ;)

OMG! What goes there? Is it a window? Is it an apple? No! It is... a penguin riding a chameleon! o.O
Yes, I have fallen for the promises of speed and stability for free. As of today my computer runs SuSE Linux 10.1 and I must admit, it's better than I thought it would be. It's true, I can still do everything I used to do with Windows and it's really only getting used to new software that is a minor downside. For IM conversations there's Kopete, for graphics stuff there's GIMP, for everything MS Office offered there's OpenOffice, for music there's Amarok... and there's still Firefox for the internet. As for games... well, there's a fine DOS emulator for the DOS games I play (and I already had to use one in XP so no difference there) and I can use Wine (a Windows emulator) for everything I can't live without. As you can see, I've got nothing to complain about. Well, I can complain about my exams like every other high school senior over here but there'll be enough time for that tomorrow after my exam. Wait, no, tomorrow's the English exam. I don't think I'll have a great deal to complain about considering that exam. You'll have to wait 'till tuesday to get a proper rant. (Tuesday's the maths exam.)
In other news: today I had a chat with fable!!! I added her a long time ago but she was never online and now she was!
Yesterday I went to IKEA and bought two "Closet MALM" as the box said. (Gotta love IKEA.) Basically they're two big wooden things with three huge drawers each. They give my room a new look and I like it. It feels so strange that I'm busy with my room right now while the chances are big I'll be moving to a place of my own at the end of the summer. Ah well...
Right, that's all you're gonna get from me tonight! :P

I haven't checked the answer model for Dutch yet but I was ready in one and a half hour while we had three hours to take the exam. (So I either did incredibly well or I flunked it big time. I'm guessing the first though.) Yeah... thing seem to be going pretty smooth at the moment. Now I've got five days to myself before the next batch starts. Only three more exams, then it'll be waiting for the results and then... it'll all be over!
Well, I was kinda late with posting this and the not-about-exams post I wanted to do yesterday is still on the to-do list but it's late now and I'm going to give all my attention to watching anime and chatting.

Although the bio exam was a pain, I was still feeling pretty good about it when I finished it. There were a few questions I'm going to file some comlaints about with the national exam board (I lack a better name at the moment) since they were obvious more than biology but I had the feeling I didn't do too bad.
I just finished checking the answer model from the institute that made the exam (they release the coorect answers about 30 min after the ending of an exam) and I checked my answers very carefully and when in doubt I didn't award myself the points for that question. BOOYAH!!! I think I passed the bio exam!!! XD I will not talk about any grades for I do not yet know whether or not the formula to calculate the scores will be adjusted. (If it turns out the average score is below acceptable they'll crank it up a bit in the students' favour. The other way around is also a possibility though... >.<)
Ah well... tomorrow's a day off so including the weekend I got three days to do the last bit of studying for chemistry on monday and Dutch on tuesday.

Final Fantasy - Those Who Fight Further |
] |
With the first of my final exams tomorrow, I decided to activate some of the higher brain functions again. First up: some research (mostly done by others, hehe) on a strange phenomenon...
A couple of days ago I posted this reply to one of my own LJ entries. Before I left that morning I wrote down the screennames from the conversation. I lost the piece of paper I wrote them on but now I found it again. So I went looking for an explanation and found this post in a community dedicated to the "victims" of the hatter. (How the hatting works is also described there.)
So I read it has got to do with the fact I've got my AIM screenname visible on my LJ profile. I don't think I'll take it off now I know the "pickup line" of this bot. I understood that it happens at random so it shouldn't happen that often and hey, maybe it's a chance to chat with new people. The shitty thing is that when I got hatted, I came in contact with somebody who had just lost a dear friend and was in no mood for something like this at all. Not my fault, all I did was being online, but nevertheless shitty. This once again shows bots as what they are, intelligent to the extend of their creator. (And I can know since I help train those things. I had a wonderful chat with God the other night, untill he refered to himself as a Robot Entity >.<...)
Check the post I refer to for a list of screennames this hatter uses (and add hatofdarkness for yourself to that list as well, I got hatted by that name) and remember that if you get hatted, the conversation starts with "i say, old bean, have you seen my hat?".
EDIT: I posted et voila, I got hatted again. This time by tehgreathatsby. Does this bot look for its own names or something? Anyway, I'm going to add all hat bots that contact me and block 'em. That should give me some peace and quiet.
